Nenita D. Ashhurst, 80, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy anchored in deep faith, abundant warmth, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
Born in the Philippines on December 12, 1945, Nenita lived a life defined by devotion - both to her Lord and to those she held dear. A woman of profound Catholic faith, she dedicated much of her life to the service of her church and community. Her hospitality knew no bounds; over the years, she opened her home to house seminarians and, in 1996, founded the Two Hearts Pilgrimage Prayer Group in Tucson, Arizona, a ministry celebrating 30 years of devotion and fellowship this year. Nenita derived immense joy from cooking for others, gathering people around her table, and nurturing a wide circle of cherished friends.
Above all else, Nenita loved her family fiercely. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin E. Ashhurst (aka Skip). One of nine siblings, her spirit lives on through her surviving family, including her two loving sisters, Lourdes Dorado and Amparo Stella, as well as her many nieces and nephews, to whom she was deeply devoted.
Nenita’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her five children: Esperanza and her husband Michael, Derek, Steven, Carl and his wife Kristen, and Edward and his wife Tiffanie. Her legacy of love continues to grow through her 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a cornerstone of faith for her community, a devoted mother and aunt, and a fiercely loving grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, home-cooked meals, and prayers touched countlessly many.
Prior to her passing, she left her family and loved ones with a final message to carry forward: “Faith, Love, Unity, and Forgiveness.”
