Born December 6, 1936
Died July 27, 2025
Mary Diehl Sutter, 88, of Tucson, Arizona, left us peacefully on July 27 at 8:24 p.m. Earlier in the day, she was surrounded by her surviving and loving five children and their respective spouses. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary loved the outdoors, camping, quilting and will always be remembered for her endearing love and commitment to family.
Born on December 6, 1936 in Aurora Illinois, Mary grew up on a farm in Naperville Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Diehl and sister to two brothers: James and Joe (both deceased), and two sisters: Martha and Pat. Throughout her life, Mary was a devout Catholic and member of the church in every community she lived.
On October 6, 1955, at 18-years of age, Mary gave birth to her first child and followed that with five more children over the next seven years and two months. Every year, two of the children have been the same age for two weeks.
A proud graduate with a master’s degree in social work (MSW), Mary devoted the latter part of her career to Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson, where she worked to give comfort, care, and quality of life to those approaching the end of life—along with their surviving family members. Mary understood the path of her final journey in life and never questioned, and never complained.
Mary was preceded in death by her son and fourth child: Michael Regole, and is survived by her three sons (and spouses): Donald Regole (Shirley), Richard Regole (Renee), and Paul Regole (Gabrielle), and her two daughters: Karen Funk (Mike), and Linda Clark, as well as her 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held to celebrate Mary’s life on October 11 at 10:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Tucson.
