In Loving Memory of Karen Shreves – Washington June 18, 1959 – May 20, 2025
Karen Shreves – Washington was born on June 18, 1959, in Porterville, California, the beloved daughter of J.B. and Tilda Shreves, who preceded her in death. She was the seventh of nine children and was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, where she developed her love for animals and the natural beauty around her. Karen spent 24 meaningful years living in North Carolina before moving to Tucson, Arizona, 11 months ago to be near her family. She found great comfort on her patio, where she would often sit quietly, watching the hummingbirds and reflecting on the simple joys of life.
Karen passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at 10:55 AM at Northwest Hospital in Tucson. She was surrounded by her loving brother, sisters and sister in-law, and extended family members. Her life, though marked by the challenges of a traumatic brain injury and the resulting struggle with mental illness, was also defined by love, courage, and the deep bond she shared with her family. Those who knew her saw a gentle spirit who found joy in nature and strength in faith. Her family takes comfort knowing that she is now free and healed in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She is survived by her brother, two sisters, loving sister-in law and several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Northwest Hospital—especially the team on the second floor, ICU Room 27—for the tender kindness shown to Karen and to them during her transition. Their care and compassion were a blessing in her final days.
A Funeral service to honor Karen’s life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Swan Burial and Cremation, located at 1335 S. Swan Rd, Tucson, Arizona 85711. A witness cremation will follow the service. Her ashes will be lovingly buried at the family ranch in Nutrioso, Arizona—a peaceful place that brought her great joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Karen’s memory by sharing the love you have for your family while you can—express it sooner rather than later. Tomorrow is never promised and love unspoken is a missed gift.
