November 3, 1928 – August 19, 2025
Georgean was born November 3, 1928, in Tacoma, Washington. Growing up in the depression taught her at an early age the importance of managing finances. She always tried to keep up on emerging technology watching society go from Model T’s, radios and rotary phones with party lines to Tesla’s, computers, cell phones and color TVs.
Georgean had an adventurous spirit with a thirst for, reading, writing, learning, teaching, art and traveling. She loved “living off the fat of the land”, picking berries in the mountains, digging clams on the beach, mushrooming and hunting. Georgean bagged many rabbits and even brought home a deer. She loved camping and picnicking in the mountains, the high desert of Eastern Washington and the Sonoran Desert in Arizona as well as the Pacific Ocean beaches. Harvesting and gleaning brought her much joy. She abhorred waste.
As well as being a prolific reader Georgean wrote extensively and self-published several books. She painted with watercolors and other mediums, loved clay and created many unique items, crafted stained glass panels, quilted, made jewelry, did needlepoint and even crafted a latch hook rug. She was fascinated by the creativity of all the arts.
Georgean loved travelling, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. She was proud to say she had traveled completely around the world. Her adventures took her to most of the European countries, Australia and New Zealand, Turkey and the Middle East, Greece, Peru, Costa Rica, China, Thailand, India, as well as Canada and Mexico. She was always up for an adventure whether it was riding a mule down the Grand Canyon, rafting Class 5 rapids on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica, travelling through Europe and the Middle East on her own, or skydiving at the age of 70 with her grandson, Sean. She was up to try anything.
Georgean graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington. She met her future husband at a dance in Sumner Washington. Georgean and Robert were married in Tacoma, November 24, 1948. They remained married for over 50 years. When her children went to off to college Georgean returned to school, graduating from the University of Oregon, earning her teaching degree in three years. She loved teaching. Her favorite was a small school in Orondo, Washington where she had a classroom made up of first, second and third graders together.
